I left saturday morning to go to Candi' to work on a mural we are doing in Kenzies new room, then later in day we turn on the radio and they mention a fire , apparantly it had been raging for the last 3 hours!! So, I jump in my mini to head home. Alas after an hour to get from Candi's to the Tim Hortons in Westbank, (normally a 5 minute drive) a rcmp informs me that the fire has "jumped" the highway and is now burning on both sides of Hwy 97!, He tells me I cannot go to Summerland, unless I go thru Rutland, a 3 1/2hr drive rather than the 35 minute one. So I go back to Candi's to sleep.
Today a new fire started in Rose Valley, which is the other side of Candi's! It has now also gained momemtum, And Candi is on standby. Lance boated up the east side of the lake to pick me up and take me back to Summerland. We then picked up Kenzie who was with her dad in Penticton for the weekend and will keep her here till we get an all clear from Candi!
Candi asked what to save besides her dogs, ( which is a little funny if you think about this, cause early this morning Candi took her dog kennels up to the shelter for the 14,000 people evaculated to use, and now she is on standby).
Hopefully they will get a handle soon, they have not been able too yet due to the high tempetures and afternoon winds. The westbank/Peachland fire went from 5 Hectres to 500 hectres within hours.
I jokingly told Candi to take the wall we have been working on, but really, all that really matters, is to be alive, and safe. I will update what is happening. These are some pictures of the helicopers dropping water, oh, I should mention the "Great rate" Air Canada had today for a one way flight from kelowna to penticton $308.00 - yeh, real nice of them for all these people who are stuck in Kelowna, away from their families in Penticton.
